Room 22 wrote some lovely Rainbow Poems today. We hope you enjoy them.
I Swallowed a Rainbow
I Dreamed I Swallowed a Rainbow. Feel the Rainbow and its vibent colours. Look at the fadaing rainbow. The rainbow tastes like a plum. Smell the Rainbow, like a fruit salad. Hear the sounds in the sky. Because rainbows are one happy thing in the sky By Hannah I Dreamt I swallowed a Rainbow
By Shayla Russo
I waited and waited for the flavour to burst into my mouth.
It tasted like magnificient colours blended together.
I feel tingles down my throat.
It slowly flows down my throat like a river.
Magically it grows in my body.
I smell the berries and banana,
Wickedly dancing up my nose.
The pot of gold lies infront of me.
Suddenly the sun appears and the rainbow disappears into the sunset.
I Dreamt I swallowed a rainbow
By Jared Thomson
I dream of swallowing a rainbow,
all colourful and bright.
I dream about a rainbow,
what a wonderful sight.
I dream of swallowing a rainbow,
it tastes like turkish delight.
I dream of swallowing a rainbow,
everything would be just right.
I dream of swallowing a rainbow,
its warm like a flame.
If you could taste a rainbow,
nothing else would taste the same.
I dream of swallowing a rainbow,
under the cold spit of rain.
I dream of swallowing a rainbow,
it would taste like gold, yum yum!
I dream of swallowing a rainbow,
it would be as sweet as a plum!

Recycling
Room 20 created dances to show the recycling process for different materials. The
children shared them at assembly.

Room 20Room 20 explored electrical circuits using batteries and bulbs. We discovered that there were different ways of wiring circuits. When batteries were wired in series, the voltage of all the batteries was added together, making the bulb glow brightly. Bulbs wired in series were quite dull. A parallel circuit ensured that both bulbs and batteries had the same brightness or voltage as each other. We were able to describe and show the two basic circuits. We also found out how to wire a simple switch into a circuit, and to use a circuit to find out which materials were conductors (mostly metals) and which were insulators (plastic, wood). We explored resistance and fuses using steelo and a six volt battery. It was exciting when the steelo glowed orange and then burned through. We made an electromagnet which picked up paper clips. We also talked about safety with electricity. It was great when Shinae’s Dad came to our class and showed us a section of an electric motor he had prepared. He also demonstrated a stairway circuit and an electromagnet. We used our knowledge to make some games which include electrical circuits. |

Room 20 Sailing Room 20 has been studying sailing as part of a focus on wind and water. We decided to investigate how different sail positions work. Land yachts were constructed and tested with a fan. The land yachts were made using materials such as toy cars, c-nex, nylon fabric, plastic bags, kebab sticks, and anything else which would work. Different sail angles were set on each yacht. The experience of sailing at Lake Manuwai really helped us to understand the sail settings. With the wind behind, the sail was set at west for a run; for a reach we set the sails at SW and the wind was blowing across the yacht. With the wind set closer to the bow of the yacht when beating to windward we set the sails at SSW. All yachts sailed okay on a run; about half sailed on a reach, and only a very few sailed to windward. |
